The Blog Has Returned
So after a long hiatus, monkeying around with several different site solutions, and so on, I’ve resurrected my blog. Instead of using Wordpress or anything like that, I’ve decided to go with Hugo instead.
I realized that since this blog will be static content, I can use a nice static generator to create it and update it via rsync or similar technologies. I also don’t care about lacking the ability for people to post comments as, frankly, most of them are spam and I don’t want to deal with it.
Yes, I could just write the HTML and CSS by hand, but I’m lazy. Besides, if I really wanted to get that down and dirty, I’ll just write a new theme for this site.
It also makes it nice as a simple, static site has fewer entry points for hackers to get in. It’s why I had to take down my old Wordpress sites. I got a bit lazy with keeping it up to date and may have put up some sketchy plugins. As a result, I got popped. I really should have known better for many reasons, but life gets in the way.
I will be updating this with nicer themes, more customization, and so on going forward. But for now, it’s functional and that’s all I want.
It’s also nice to be able to experiment with Hugo. I have a couple of other sites I’m thinking about using it for and this blog makes for a great guinea pig.
